Issue I, Vol. 1
Dear Parents and students,
We hope everyone had a wonderful summer! While everyone is getting back into the swing of things, we wanted to let you all know that we will be sending out a monthly newsletter to highlight student progress, birthdays, provide musical tips and insights, as well as keep everyone updated on upcoming opportunities and performances. If there are any performances or opportunities you feel we should include in our newsletters, please feel free to reach out and share your thoughts and suggestions.
FREE LESSONS FOR REFERRALS
First, let us thank each and everyone of you for making JJ Music such a wonderful space to share and grow in musical talent. With life so busy, making time to perfect a craft can seem overwhelming when added to the mix of school, work, family, and extracurricular activities. We appreciate your loyalty and consistency with us at JJ Music. With that in mind, we are offering a free lesson for those who refer anyone to JJ Music Lessons.
TIPS FOR ACTIVE ENGAGEMENT
What happens if my child is not engaged in lessons anymore? Here at JJ Music Lessons, we encourage active participation with your child’s musicianship. Whether you consider yourself knowledgeable or completely clueless about music, there are still ways to engage outside of the practice room. Here are a few ways to keep your kids on track:
Practice logs: Keeping a daily and weekly log of practice sessions will help motivate your kids. This can be beneficial by showing them how far they have come and goals to be achieved. With a practice log, students can jot down what they need help with or things they have accomplished.
Recording practices: Have your child record themselves while practicing to see what possible nervous habits need to be addressed and what hand positions, breathing, techniques need to be polished or corrected. Recording yourself may feel silly at first but is highly beneficial in the transformation of a performer.
Mirror Mirror on the Wall: Mirrors are just as beneficial as a recording. Have your student(s) practice in front of a mirror. This is awkward at first but over time they will see the benefits of looking at their unique characteristics and those that need to be refined. A mirror as well as a recording can reveal a lot that we as musicians do not realize we are doing!
RECOGNIZING GROWTH
We will recognize one or two students every month for those who show diligence and focus outside of the studio. Creating these practice logs will give your child incentive to do their best. Although we love all our students, we believe acknowledging growth is crucial in the development of a musician.
